That’s right…what are you wearing? Right now as you’re reading this? Are you one of those VA’s who likes to work in jammies and fuzzy bunny slippers? Are you still in your business suit working ‘corporate’ and dreaming about becoming a VA? Are you wondering why I care what you’re wearing?
Here’s why: If you are a Virtual Assistant YOU are your own brand… and the way you present yourself to the world matters.
I’ll explain what I mean. Every time you leave your house, for a soccer game, the grocery store or to pick up the kids at school: Your potential clients are out there. You never know (and you will always be surprised) at who your next client in your own community is! You might be sniffing cantaloupes when a busy-business-owner notices you standing there and approaches you to talk about becoming her VA. But what will our busy-business-owner think when she realizes you haven’t combed your hair and are wearing your husbands track pants? Will she see you as a highly-organized professional VA with the techie skills and knowledge to help her run her online empire? Probably not.
You may be the best Virtual Assistant in the industry – but if you don’t look the part, you could be missing out on potential clients and not even know it. Even if you are planning to work at home all day, you will feel better, more confident and do your best work if you take the time to shower, get dressed, do your hair and put some lipstick on!
Remember that as a solopreneur, or even as the head of a small team of VA’s, the way you present yourself to the world is a reflection on your business. Take the time to create your stylish image – and work it!
