Week 5 has been a bounce-back week for me. I am down one pound for a grand total of 5 (again!). I’ll take it. Keep picturing what one pound of butter looks like in the grocery store and, hey, I’ll take it.
The last month-and-a-bit have been interesting research for me, figuring out what triggers a cracker-binge and what I need to do to avoid those. Here’s two-cents worth of helpful advice:
Only splurge when it’s really, REALLY worth it.
That sounds simple…but I’ve found it to be a handy tool when I’m faced with an opportunity to eat something that’s…errr…. not exactly healthy.
- Open cupboard and find box of Wheat Thins. Should I eat that? HECK NO. These are probably my least fave of all salty snacks. Chemicals laden cardboard squares with salt that market themselves as ‘healthy’ by throwing the words “Wheat” and ‘Baked” on the box. Totally NOT binge-worthy. If I eat that I will feel guilty and crave more junk in an hour.
- Open the fridge and find slice of home made strawberry pie with dollop of home made whipped cream? HECK YES. Totally worth it. No chemicals, farm fresh berries (from right across the road!) and a treat that only presents itself once a year! (In strawberry season…when they are sweeter and juicier than you could ever imagine). That, my friends, is a worthy indulgence.
So one week left in the healthy eating challenge. And it’s strawberry season. Wish me luck!
