Happy New Year!

Virtual Assistant Goals

Happy New Year!  The start of a fresh new year signifies the perfect time to get visioning, goal setting and planning for success in the year ahead.  A few years ago I dropped the tradition of setting New Year’s Resolutions.  I think they are a fun tradition but I rarely keep mine and I tend to have a hard time narrowing down what I want for the year ahead.  Instead, I like to chill out over the holidays and do a sort of “Brain-Dump Visioning Exercise” (for lack of a better word). Basically it’s just sitting down with a glass of red, pack of pens and paper and making a huge list of 50 things I’d like to accomplish this year.  What’s the point?  It gives me clarity about what I really want.  It helps me make choices and decisions.  It’s motivating.  And it’s weirdly kind of fun.

“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours”.
-Henry D. Thoreau, Walden

So I’ve decided to share my list this year.  Perhaps it will give me a little shot of accountability by making it public or motivate some to create a “New Year Vision” of their own.  Happy listing!

  1. Hustle Hard.  Building a business has periods of very hard work…and rest.  I strongly believe you need both to succeed.
  2. Ditch my planner and try using a bullet journal for one year.
  3. Buy and learn to use Photoshop. (Fun!)
  4. Spend way more time seeking out fun stuff to do with the Gal Pals.
  5. Be kind to myself.  Talk nice. Eat clean. Self care. Always.
  6. Launch and run FOUR courses for Virtual Assistants.
  7. Let my kiddos have friends over more often.
  8. Run a 5K race. Maybe. Definitely.
  9. Make fun cocktails now and then instead of the red wine stand-by.
  10. Finish writing my dang book already.
  11. Eat at Atelier, Ottawa.
  12. Try a winter picnic.  Dress warm and eat outside by the fire.
  13. Document our lives by taking way more pictures.  Go on photography walks.
  14. Bake more.
  15. Kick the diet soda.  Permanently.
  16. Up my home decor game.  Start by finishing the kitchen reno.
  17. Make the bed every single day.
  18. Seriously give meditation a try.   Don’t give up so easily.
  19. Watch make-up tutorials – figure out eyebrows.  Mine need work.
  20. Be myself.  Don’t do things in business because someone told you you’re ‘supposed to’.
  21. Stick to at least one month of Apple Cider Vinegar Shots.  Eeek.
  22. Take a writing class.
  23. Finish reading ALL the books I’ve downloaded on my ipad.
  24. Put fairy lights outside on the back deck this summer.
  25. Spend at least 1 day canoeing.
  26. Visit a cave.  Go on the Haunted Walk.  See Shakespeare in the Park.  The light show on Parliament Hill.
  27. Get an article in the Huffington Post.
  28. Buy Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking“.
  29. Attend a “Paint & Sip” class.
  30. Reclaim my dining room from the clutter monster.
  31. Take my vitamins. Every. Single. Day.
  32. Host a dinner party. (Burgers on the BBQ doesn’t count).
  33. Do the Blue Mountain Zipline (I went last year and chickened out).
  34. Take the kiddos to Rock ‘n Bowl.
  35. Aim for zero complaining.
  36. Hand out more compliments to everyone.
  37. Upgrade small things every day, over time.
  38. Take the kids camping (even though I hate it).  Was that a complaint already?
  39. Simplify.
  40. Have friends over for a wicked fun Board Game night.
  41. Stop putting silly selfies on Instagram even though a coach told me to.
  42. Spend a weekend at a winery.
  43. Get back into hiking with the family.
  44. Pay the last bit off on my Line of Credit.  (FREEDOM!)
  45. Learn how to poach an egg.
  46. Take vacation time with the family…a March Break Getaway, a Summertime Trip and a Winter Vacay!
  47. Spend more time at the farmers market.  Less time at the big box grocery store.
  48. Laugh and laugh.
  49. Build a new front porch.
  50. Laugh and laugh.  Deserves repeating.

All the best of abundance, happiness and success for your life and business in 2016!
